When I initially started blogging, it was 5 years ago and I would say it was a sort of accidental result. I ended up on blogger when a friend of mine introduced me to it and I thought it was cool to have a blog because it is rare! So, I am in. But my idea of blogging was rather unclear and I used it as medium to express my anger, hatred and above all, my love life. Puppy love, I might add.
Fast forward to a few years where I grew up and so did my mind, I wanted to erase all the negative vibe and clean them up. So I made decision to delete my previous blog and promised to never get involve in blogging. BUT! I missed it. I missed sharing, I missed writing and I miss getting to know awesome people. So I ventured back into this world of awesomeness a year back and this is when all the learning began.
This is the space where I learnt things, I made mistakes, errors etc. And I want to share the mistakes with you today.
Too focusing on quantity over quality
Back in the day, I thought that it was better to have something posted (even though it is not beneficial) rather than I miss a day. I would write 10 post that are short and don't provide any information at all.
Didn't consider the readers
At the very beginning, my blog was all about me. It was about things that were going on in my life, food I ate, places I visited or topics I was interested in. Now I am not saying it is a bad thing, but I didn't consider the readers. I didn't ask questions, I didn't respond to any comments at all, it was always about me and I wasn't that friendly as well.
Wasn't building relationships or engaging with the readers
On the same note, I wasn't building a relationship with my readers. Building a relationship is one of the keys to getting people to return to your blog. I remember I disabled the comment section on my blog because it seemed ugly. WHAT WAS I THINKING!?
I will be the first one to admit that my grammar wasn't that good, but I am getting better. I posted a lot of entries with poor grammar back then. I didn't fix all the silly little mistakes and I wasn't even care how my content looks.
What are your blogging mistakes did you make when you first starting out?
