5 Malay Drama Cliches

Friday, September 16, 2016

Assalamualaikum and hi everyone! So, are you a drama lover? Oops, let me correct that. Are you a Malay drama lover? Because you'll be agreeing with all of my statements in this post. Maybe not all. I don't layan drama that much, I prefer movies. Me and my bae would go to the movies almost every week to watch the new release movies. Haha.

There are many Malay drama out there, each with interesting plots, unique story lines, awesome characters, actors and settings. Sometimes, they're just so typical. And let's not forget the crappy titles. But, when it comes down to it, there are some cliché elements that just have to be there to make it a drama.

1. Love triangles
What drama wouldn't be perfect without some kind of love triangle? Some Malay drama would take it up a notch and have more than 3 characters entangled in a love situation. I pernah layan this Malay drama where the girl is like the hottest ticket lah then ada these 4 dudes yang nak the girl. Ugh.

2. The old lover
As if the love triangle wasn't enough, somebody's old lover has to show up a moment to fight for their past love. This has to be in the drama and making the love lines more complicated. I personally hate it but apa boleh buatlah, nanti tak jadi cerita pulak. Ye dok?

3. A family member who disapproves the relationship
If you think the comeback of an old lover is a crappy situation, this one is even more crappy. One of the parents, usually the mother, has to dislike their son/daughter-in-law and try to make their life miserable. Can you not? Why can't you live life happily and not hating your menantu punya potentials? Geram ah. Haha.

4. Rich, very rich, people
Usually, it's the main male lead, who comes from a super rich family or is a successful CEO/businessman. Always make a last minute vacation plans to a very far away places, isn't afraid to buy all the products in a store, bla bla bla. Paling cliché in nowadays Malay drama, I mean, macam tak boleh buat cerita yang hero dia peminjam PTPTN ke? Haha. Asyik yang kaya raya je. It's a loathsome situation, I am getting bored of it.

5. Top of the lines cellphones
It doesn't matter if they're come from a rich or a poor family, everyone has the newest, coolest cellphones. You've got to agree with me ;)

I have nothing against Malay drama though, I just think that people may actually recognize these things as much as I recognize them. Whatever it is, I watch them too, but only drama yang full of quality and worth it lah. Hehe. I hope you enjoyed and let me know what you think. Aaaand any other drama clichés you wanna add? Shoot!

Till then x

  2. Semua yang dinyatakan tu tersangatlah betul. Haha 😀 Fatin pun jarang layan drama Melayu ni. Sebab jalan cerita semua lebih kurang sama je. Bosan lah. Hahaha. Fatin lebih kepada movie je. Macam kat panggung wayang tu. Tapi kalau tengok wayang pun kan, cerita Melayu boleh dikatakan duduk dalam senarai paling belakang sekali untuk tengok 😝

  3. I'm not a malay drama enthusiast, so I can say I agree with those.

There will always be some scenes where the role players have to talk to themselves as if us (the watchers) are dumb enough to get things explained by ourselves. Very distracting. I guess watching the dramas is something I wouldn't do in my leisure time. Maybe malay drama is just not my thing, and I prefer the malay movies (some) though.
